Jan. 24th, 2012 – Food Share Field Trip Pictures

The Food and Nutrition class spent an afternoon at FoodShare a non-profit community organization whose vision is Good Healthy Food for All.

They take a multifaceted, innovative, and long-term approach to hunger and food issues. FoodShare works on food issues “from field to table” – meaning that they focus on the entire system that puts food on our tables: from the growing, processing and distribution of food to its purchasing, cooking and consumption. They operate innovative grassroots projects that promote healthy eating, teach food preparation and cultivation, develop community capacity and create non-market-based forms of food.

Jan. 24th, 2012 – Evergreen Volunteer Night

The Academy’s own Jessie was honoured recently at Evergreen’s volunteer appreciation night.  The event was held at the Brickworks where Jessie has contributed many hours of volunteer work.  With support from Kaili and her co-op program at the Academy, Jessie’s placement with Evergreen has turned into a rich and rewarding experience that shows no signs of slowing down.  In addition to co-op hours, Jessie has volunteered on his own time in the summer months as well as with the Academy for their spring and fall stewardship program at Downsview Park.  Thanks for all you do, Jessie, and congratulations!

Jan. 13th, 2012 – Ability in Action Workshop

On Friday January 13 😉 the Gr.11 Health Care (TPJ3M) and Gr.10 Healthy Active Living (PPL2O) classes trekked out to Scarborough in the snow to participate in “Ability in Action, a workshop delivered by Variety Village. The workshop exposed students to various assistive equipment, adapted sports and the rigors of using a wheelchair. Academy staff and students left with a broader understanding of accessibility and great respect for wheelchair basketball (the hardest sport we’ve attempted so far). Thanks Variety Village for hosting us!
