About The YMCA Academy
The YMCA Academy is an independent school that provides unique educational resources to young people with learning disabilities and learning style differences. Located in downtown Toronto, the school helps students in grades 6-12. With full-time academic support, on-site emotional support and specialized education support programs, students are equipped with the skills to develop independence and resilience.
Middle School Program
The YMCA Academy’s middle school is an alternative grade 6 to 8 program in downtown Toronto. Developed with a focus on building reading, writing and math skills, our personal differentiated approach, specialized programs, and individualized use of assistive technology are ideally suited to students with mild learning disabilities or learning style differences.
- Individualized Special Education support including IEP implementation and assistive technologies
- Socio-emotional support including full-time Student Counsellor
- Small class sizes and personal support (classes average 6 students)
- Modern facilities including bright classrooms, fully equipped labs, and a broad range of health and fitness facilities
- Outdoor education and year-round YMCA of Greater Toronto membership
- A broad range of extracurricular opportunities, including clubs, events, and a cross-Canada exchange
- Full range of technology including laptops and android tablets for every student
- Experiential learning – a wide range of learning opportunities outside the classroom

High School Program
The YMCA Academy is a Ministry of Education–inspected, alternative high school in downtown Toronto. Our personal differentiated approach, specialized programs, and individualized use of assistive technology are ideally suited to students with mild learning disabilities or learning style differences.
- Diploma (OSSD) and Certificate (OSSC) streams
- Modern facilities including bright classrooms, fully equipped labs, and a broad range of health and fitness facilities
- Socio-emotional support including full-time Student Counsellor
- Small class sizes and personal support (classes average 9 students)
- Experiential learning, workplace internships, and co-op program
- A range of academic opportunities, including Locally Developed, Applied, and College Preparation courses
- Online wireless environment with laptops for every student
- Outdoor education and year-round YMCA of Greater Toronto membership
- A broad range of extracurricular opportunities, including clubs, events, and a cross-Canada exchange
