Each year, The YMCA Academy invites edu-makers and change agents from across the city to share inspiring ideas at TEDxYMCAAcademy — our own TEDx conference.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
Past TEDxYMCAAcademy events have focused on: urbanism education; integrating technology in the classroom; wrap-around services for youth; machines and minds; and working with students with learning disabilities.

Lessons and full-school gatherings at the Academy are often augmented by presentations from inspiring local changemakers and innovators. Their enthusiasm and knowledge deepens students’ understanding of the material they’re learning in class.
In addition, the Academy regularly hosts information sessions and discussions with experts from organizations supporting exceptional youth.
