A middle school for those that learn differently
The YMCA Academy’s middle school is a grade 6 to 8 program in downtown Toronto. Developed with a focus on building reading, writing and math skills, our personal differentiated approach, specialized programs, and individualized use of assistive technology are ideally suited to students with mild learning disabilities or learning style differences.
Our grade 6 to 8 program balances traditional academic disciplines with social/emotional wellness. Our timetable includes time for developing reading and writing skills, investigating Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM), exploring individual interests through project-based learning, and integrating mindfulness practices.
Safe and supportive learning environment
Our middle school program provides a comprehensive support system designed specifically for students with learning disabilities and learning style differences.
Small classes
Classes average 6 students, allowing our specialized educators to provide personal support and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) effectively for each student.
Experiential learning
We believe learning happens everywhere. Our program combines regular excursions with a wide range of clubs and after-school programs to build social skills and explore student interests outside the core curriculum.
