A high school program for all learning styles & abilities
High school at YMCA Academy offers a more personal and differentiated approach, specialized programs, and individualized use of assistive technology. Our Ministry of Education-inspected, independent school in downtown Toronto is ideally suited to students with mild learning disabilities and/or learning style differences.
YMCA Academy is a fully accredited high school. Students graduate with either an Ontario Secondary School Diploma, Ontario Secondary School Certificate, or a Certificate of Accomplishment.
Safe and supportive learning environment
Our high school program provides a comprehensive support system designed specifically for students with learning disabilities and learning style differences.
Small classes
Classes average 6 students, allowing our specialized educators to provide personal support and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) effectively for each student.
Experiential learning
We believe learning happens everywhere. Our program combines regular excursions with a wide range of clubs and after-school programs to build social skills and explore student interests outside the core curriculum.

The Ultimate Goal
Pathways to graduating
Our designated Guidance Counsellor meets with students to ensure they meet the criteria for their post-secondary pathway of choice. Information sessions for parents include “High School 101” and “Post-Secondary Transition” to ease their anxiety for life after high school and set their child up for success.
Ontario Secondary School Diploma
Students who complete the required credits graduate with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), the standard credential for post-secondary pathways in Ontario.
Ontario Secondary School Certificate
The Ontario Secondary School Certificate (OSSC) recognizes students who have completed a substantial portion of high school credits through an individualized pathway.
Certificate of Accomplishment
A Certificate of Accomplishment celebrates the skills, growth, and achievements students have earned through their personalized learning journey at the Academy.
